According to a Council of Ministers decree published this Friday, the total cost of the work to extend the Yellow Line and the new Pink Line of the Porto Metro has risen by around 20 million euros to 511 million euros.
Following the approval of the Council of Ministers on June 29, the total cost of expansion projects for the Metro do Porto network has increased from 407 million euros envisaged in 2020 to 511 million euros, according to the resolution published this Friday.
The increase, completed this Friday, follows the recognition by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action on March 6 that the cost of works on the pink and yellow lines of the Porto Metro has increased by 29% and 30%, respectively, by about 84%. million euros in total, according to Lusa calculations.
Thus, in addition to the total “pie” of 407 million euros approved in 2020, including expropriations, projects, inspection, equipment and support systems for exploration, 84 million were added with reference to the contract, for a total amount of about 491 million euros.
However, with the resolution known this Friday, the government has approved additional spending of around 20 million euros for projects, reaching 511 million euros in a new total pie for this phase of the Metro do Porto expansion.
“The exceptional situation in supply chains and the circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the global energy crisis and the aftermath of the war in Ukraine have caused a sharp increase in the prices of raw materials, supplies and labor, with a particular focus on the construction sector, which has had a serious impact on the economy, causing sudden and unpredictable price increases,” the government says.
Of the approved 511 million, 103.3 million will come from the state budget, you can also read in the decree of the Council of Ministers, signed by the Minister of the Presidency, Mariana Vieira da Silva.
The Porto Metro Yellow Line extension includes a contract between Santo Ovidio and Vila d’Este, including Manuel Leão and Santos Silva Hospital stations, as well as tunnels, a viaduct and a materials and workshops park (PMO).
The pink line will have a completely underground route between São Bento and Casa da Música, including intermediate stations of Santo António Hospital and Galiza, as well as a spur connecting to the main line.
Works on the Yellow Line are scheduled for the end of 2023, and on the Pink Line – for the end of 2024.
