A car accident that occurred this afternoon at 14.50 was fatal for the driver of the car, who was the only passenger in it.
It was a violent collision in a straight line with a large eucalyptus tree, about a meter and a half in diameter.
The location was known to the victim, who lives in the neighboring village of Lagoa in the parish of Figueira de Lorvan, a few kilometers away.
There are no brakes on the site, leading the public to suspect the attack and sudden illness as the cause of the fatal crash.
“We discovered that the victim was in cardiac arrest, so we immediately proceeded to remove him and began resuscitation activities, which were suspended by order of the INEM doctor, who declared death on the spot,” said Vasco Viseu, commander of the Penakova fire department, which coordinated the rescue operations.
In addition to the volunteer firefighters from Penakov who were on site with 11 elements, there was also an INEM ambulance and resuscitation vehicle with three elements. The GNR mobilized four soldiers for a total of 18 operatives for the rescue.
The GNR Traffic Accident Investigation Center is investigating the cause of the accident.
The body of the fatal victim was taken to the Instituto de Medicina Legal de Coimbra for an autopsy.
