About 80 members of two trade union organizations – Fenprof and Stop – demonstrated this Wednesday at the entrance to the convent of San Francisco in Coimbra, where the Minister of Education met with directors of schools and groups in the north and center.
On the one hand were teachers from the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) demanding respect and calling attention to the “delays, delays and passivity of the Ministry of Education”, and on the part of the Union of All Educational Workers (Stop) the resignation of the Minister of Education was required.
“The delay in the publication of the results of the tenders and the procedure for the tender for mobility due to illness is incomprehensible,” says the document, which Fenprof Deputy Secretary General Francisco Gonçalves handed over this morning to João Costa.
Among Fenprof’s concerns is also the “problem of the decade: the lack of qualified teachers”, for which, in their opinion, “nothing structural” is being done.
“Everything that has been announced by the Minister of Education is either clearly not enough or is being postponed,” Francisco Gonçalves told reporters.
Regarding Joao Costa’s today’s meeting with school and group directors, he considered that “because of its late nature, it could jeopardize the start of the next school year.”
Stop representatives sang “It’s time to leave” to meet Joao Costa, showing him white handkerchiefs.
João Rodrigues, member of Stop, stressed that the trade union organization “will always be present” in all places where it can defend the rights of all professionals working in schools.
According to Joao Rodrigues, the Minister of Education “does not meet the conditions to stay with the portfolio” because he “does not listen to the schools.”
Joao Costa is holding cyclical meetings this Wednesday with school and group directors.
In the morning he met in Coimbra with schools and groups from the north and center, and in the afternoon he will be in Santarém to meet school directors and groups from Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, Alentejo and the Algarve.
These meetings serve as preparation for the 2023-2024 academic year.
