Education Minister Joao Costa guaranteed this Wednesday that there will be no delays in preparations for the 2023-2024 school year, allowing schools to close for the first time during the week in August.
“Everything is on normal calendars, planned calendars. Our services, school boards, are doing everything that is normal at this time of the year and, therefore, it is not worth having this kind of panic that there is no reason that supports this,” he assured.
Upon entering a meeting with directors of schools and school groups in the north and center of the country, which is taking place this morning in Coimbra, the official announced that for the first time schools could close for one week. in the month of August.
“If it wasn’t like that [sem atrasos na preparação do próximo ano letivo], we would not have been able to even give the directors a week off in August for the first time. This is the first time that schools will be able to close in August, precisely because we have provided for all the typical preparatory tasks,” he said.
