PSD requires new documentation for contracts involving Marco Capitan Ferreira

This Thursday, the PSD Parliamentary Group asked Parliament for new documentation on the contractual relationship between the Directorate General of National Defense Resources and former ruler Marco Captain Ferreira, accused of Operation Perfect Storm.

The request was delivered in the context of a joint parliamentary hearing scheduled for Friday between Defense Minister Elena Carreiras and former portfolio holder João Gomes Cravinho in the case, in which Capt. Ferreira is suspected of corruption-related offenses and economic involvement in business.

According to the request to which Lusa had access, the request was made following an analysis of documents sent to the National Defense Commission by the Ministry of National Defense on Monday, in accordance with a consultancy agreement signed between the General Directorate of National Defense Resources (DGRDN) and Marco Capitan Ferreira on March 25, 2019.

SDP asks to submit, among other documents, “an addendum to the contract that allows extending the contract with Leonardo MW LTD. for the maintenance of EH-101 helicopters until March 31, 2019”, a memorandum of understanding signed between DGRDN and Leonardo MW LTD on January 25, 2019, and two orders from the then Minister of National Defense.

According to the agenda of Parliament, the joint hearing was scheduled for 15:00 next Friday.

Former Secretary of State for Defense Marco Capitau Ferreira canceled parliamentary hearings, citing his arguido status following his resignation from government on July 7.

On Friday, the Ministry of National Defense confirmed the presence of the authorities “at its facilities, at the General Directorate of National Defense Resources, as part of an investigation into actions taken between 2018 and 2021.”

Operation PJ, conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Unit (UNCC) accompanied by the Ministry of Public Security (MP), was first conducted by the Ministry of National Defense (MDN).

Among the “revealed facts” about which MPs want clarification from the Minister of Defense and the former portfolio holder, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs, there is news from Expresso that shows that Marco Capitan Ferreira in 2019 was fulfilling a consulting contract with the General Directorate of National Defense Resources, allegedly not providing services.
