PCP Wants to End Transitional Pension Supplement

PCP wants to cancel the transitional pension renewal regime contained in the government’s proposal to respond to the emergency socio-economic situation, as well as suspend the expiration of leases this year and in 2023.

This Monday, the Communists submitted proposals to parliament to introduce an amendment on the specialty into the government charter, which determines the coefficient for rent renewal for the next year, reduces VAT on electricity supplies, and also establishes a transitional regime for updating pensions.

PCP wants the temporary pension increase to be completely abolished. The socialist executive has proposed a 4.43% renewal of pensions with a value equal to or less than twice the value of the Social Assistance Index (IAS), which this year is 443.20 euros, or 4.07% in pensions, twice the amount of IAS, up to six times that amount.

The government also intends to upgrade pensions by 3.53% at six times the IFRS amount to 12 times that amount.

The communist bench also wants the government to prevent rent renewals in 2023 and that they be suspended during this year and 2023: production of the consequences of the denunciation of lease agreements by the landlord, the expiration of these agreements if the tenant does not object, as well as foreclosure on mortgages on real estate that is permanent housing.

The PCP wants the government to take “the necessary measures to establish a maximum ‘spread'” to be applied by Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) in below market value home loan contracts applicable to all contract types. , including those entered into with other financial institutions.

The party had already presented these separate proposals as part of the PKP’s “package” to mitigate the effects of inflation and counter the rise in the cost of living for the Portuguese, but they ended up failing in Parliament.

The panel of judges, led by Paula Santos, also wants the government to consider creating an “Emergency Profit Contribution” in the energy, banking, insurance and food sectors, “applicable to companies that generate net results of more than 35 million euros” in 2022 and 2023 years.

The amount of the contribution is calculated by applying a rate of 35% to the amount of the “difference between the net income calculated in each year” compared to that calculated in 2021.

“Contribution to extraordinary profits cannot be included in the prices paid by consumers for goods or services,” he adds.

There are other measures, such as increasing the purchasing power of workers, which have already failed in the plenary, and which the PCP is presenting in this proposal of the government of emergency socio-economic situation.
