Montenegro calls on Costa and the Minister of Health to “tell the truth” about governance in this sector.

SDP leader Luis Montenegro on Monday accused the government of “wasting money in public administration”, calling on the chief executive and health minister to “tell the truth” about governance in the sector.

“It is good that Dr. António Costa and Dr. Manuel Pizarro are telling the truth once and for all to the country. Stop hiding what they do day in and day out, because one says one thing and does another,” said the President of the Social Democrats of Funchal as part of the “Feel Portugal” trip, which takes place in Madeira.

Luis Montenegro believes that in recent years the government “did everything to nationalize the National Health Service (SNS).

In his opinion, this policy has led to the growth of the private medical business in Portugal, which has led to stagnation and a decrease in the ability to offer medical services in the SNS.

The PSD leader added that health centers and public hospitals have “an ongoing and ongoing resource to provide services to members to be able to respond.”

“In other words, the socialist government wants everything to be in the state, and then, through the back door, unnoticed by everyone, it will hire the services of the private sector at a price higher than what it would be able to pay if it were well organized and managed,” he argued.

Montenegro insisted that “the SNA is now approaching collapse, not for financial reasons, but for reasons of attracting and retaining human resources.”

“And it is necessary to create conditions for professionals to feel fulfilled and feel attracted to make their career in social networks,” he emphasized.

Today, Montenegro observed the construction work of the new Madeira Central and University Hospital, “a magnificent project that took many years to complete, but fortunately it is underway”, congratulating the Madeira Regional Government “for the determination, continuous and constant struggle to make this equipment see the light of day.”

“We have to believe in the good faith of the government of the Portuguese Republic, in the commitments that have also been made to the autonomous regions,” he said, hoping that the problems would be overcome and funds would be released for the project.

“We appeal to the Minister of Finance, to the entire government, so that they do not postpone these payments, so as not to jeopardize the implementation of the project,” he said.

Montenegro also talked about the importance of creating an environment of justice and social equity that allows people to “push the country into a cycle of sustainable growth”, something that has not been achieved in the past two decades, during which Portugal was overtaken by the countries of Eastern Europe.

“I will not accept, and even more so Madeira, with Portugal, which is at the tail of Europe,” he stressed, defending the need for courage and commitment to research, innovation, valuing natural and human resources.

PSD’s national leader cited Madeira as an example, noting that when he visited the hospital project, he did not encounter “the usual complaints of people demanding more work.”

But, he added, he was told the regional government had a strategy that included “serving the population, preventing the poorest from being excluded from the system because they don’t have the money to pay for health insurance and access to primary health care.”

And he noted that at the same time, the region is investing in medical policy, in new technologies, and in innovation.

“This is an example of public administration and a system that should be highlighted and also serve as inspiration for a model in the National Health Service,” he said, adding that policies are in place to “manage the expectations, careers, progress and loyalty of professionals.” [de saúde]”.
