The Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs is “in contact with 19 Portuguese” in Greece after the fires that have engulfed the country and have already forced the authorities to carry out evacuation operations.
“The Portuguese Embassy in Athens is monitoring the situation of the forest fires in Greece and is providing all necessary support to the Portuguese people in the country and in particular on the island of Rhodes, whether they have contacted the embassy, for example, residents or those who are registered with this consular department,” reads a statement sent to Luso on Monday.
“At the moment, the Portuguese Embassy in Athens is in contact with 19 Portuguese people, three of whom live in the territory,” the statement said, which also included the emergency consulate number +351217929714/+351961706472 and the importance of registering on the Viajante app for anyone planning a trip.
In recent days, the Greek authorities have carried out an evacuation operation on the islands of Rhodes and Kofrou, and some travel companies have suspended work.
