Deputies again rejected Chega’s initiative to introduce censorship of Santos Silva

The Commission on Constitutional Affairs returned this Wednesday to reject Chega’s initiative to condemn the behavior of the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva.

The party led by Andre Ventura has already submitted a draft resolution with the same aim, which was analyzed by the Commission on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees, which concluded in September that the initiative is unconstitutional and that it does not respect the Rules of Procedure of Parliament – a decision. approved by the plenary next month.

This time, Chega presented a draft on the same topic, but in the form of an accusatory vote, which was ultimately rejected by the deputies of the 1st commission.

From the PS, deputy Alexandra Leitao stated that the socialists understand that “this commission has no right to unite the behavior of the President of the Assembly of the Republic in the exercise of the powers that belong to him to carry out the work in the plenary session”, bearing in mind that the topic has already been discussed.

Paula Cardoso of the PSD classified the initiative as “another number in the fight or dispute between the PS/Chega couple”, and the Liberal Initiative, in the voice of MP Patricia Gilvaz, accused Ventura’s party of “constantly using the parliamentary mechanisms at its disposal to fuel populism with the sole purpose of increasing its media space.”

For BE, parliament leader Pedro Filipe Soares criticized Cheg for “representing the worst of the system” and using his confrontation with the parliament chairman as a way to claim he is anti-system.

“PAR is grateful because she focuses media attention on herself and ends up polarizing with Chega and so this relationship fuels the political aspirations of both,” he accused.
