Inland north, center and Algarve region at maximum fire risk

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), about 60 municipalities in the north and center, as well as in the Algarve region, are at maximum fire risk this Thursday.

According to IPMA, about 60 municipalities in the districts of Bragança, Vila Real, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Santarém and Faro are at maximum risk.

IPMA has placed about 80 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Beja, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Leiria, Coimbra, Aveiro, Guarda, Viseu, Porto, Vila Real and Braga in very high danger.

Already in great danger is almost the entire Alentejo region, five municipalities in the Algarve, seven in the Lisbon region, three in Santarem, four in Leiria, six in Aveiro, two in Coimbra, five in Porto, in Vila Real, three in Braga and one in Viana do Castelo.

The fire risk defined by IPMA has five levels, from minimum to maximum, and calculations are made based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and rainfall in the last 24 hours.

This Thursday, IPMA predicts a decrease in minimum temperatures, especially on land, and a slight increase in maximum temperatures along the coast of the southern region, especially in the eastern Algarve. In the afternoon there will be a northwesterly wind, strong in places along the coastal strip south of Cabo Espichel.

In terms of temperature, the minimum temperature will range from 14ºC (Bragança, Vila Real, Guarda and Viseu) to 22ºC (Faro), while the maximum temperature will range from 24ºC (Viana do Castelo) to 38ºC (Faro).
