More than 70 municipalities in the north, center and Algarve are at maximum fire risk.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), this Friday, about 70 municipalities in the north and center, as well as in the Algarve region, are at maximum fire risk.

According to IPMA, more than seven dozen municipalities in the areas of Bragança, Vila Real, Guarda, Viseu, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Santarem, Leiria and Faro are at maximum risk.

IPMA places about 90 municipalities at very high risk in the districts of Faro, Beja, Lisbon, Leiria, Santarém, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Viseu, Guarda, Aveiro, Porto, Braga and Vila Real.

Almost the entire Alentejo region, the Algarve municipality and more than 40 other districts of Setúbal, Lisbon, Santarém, Leiria, Aveiro, Porto, Vila Real, Braga and Viana do Castelo are already in great danger.

The fire risk defined by IPMA has five levels, from minimum to maximum, and calculations are made based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and rainfall in the last 24 hours.

This Friday, IPMA predicts a slight increase in maximum temperature throughout the territory and a slight increase in minimum temperature in the north and center, as well as in the eastern part of the Algarve.

The wind will be northwesterly, strong in places in the highlands and in the afternoon on the coastal strip. There will also be fog or morning mist.

In terms of temperature, the minimum temperature will range from 16ºC (Braganca, Vila Real, Viseu and Sines) to 25ºC (Faro), while the maximum temperature will range from 26ºC (Braga and Aveiro) to 42ºC (Faro).
