The PKP returned this Friday to demand action from the government to help the population cope with the rising cost of living, given that “promoting ostensible macroeconomic successes” is at odds with the reality of everyday life.
“The reality faced today by thousands of workers, pensioners and pensioners, the continued loss of purchasing power as a result of the rising cost of living, calls for measures that actually counteract this trend of putting the income from speculation into the hands of those who are less than what lies in based on the accumulation of verified profits,” the party said in a statement.
In the note, Ricardo Costa, a member of the Political Commission of the Central Committee of the PKP, believes that “propaganda of supposedly macroeconomic successes collides with the harsh reality of the everyday life of the majority of the population.”
“The famous slowdown in inflation not only does not correspond to falling prices, but also heralds an inflation assessment that will affect the ongoing loss of purchasing power,” he warns.
The PKP “requires a general increase in wages, reforms and pensions that will enable everyone who works or has worked to live a life of dignity, without the constant suffocation of having to face growing hardship day by day.”
“Nothing can hide what is happening, the government must create effective conditions to change the reality that the population is facing,” the party calls.
In a statement, Ricardo Costa points out that “the ongoing speculation around prices, which is reflected in a very significant increase in the profits of the main energy companies”, as well as “the impact of this situation on the lives of workers, pensioners and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, requires an answer that opposes them.”
“The answer that PCP has defended and fought for with regard to price fixing, maximum profit margins, ending additional ISP recourse, ending ISP double taxation in terms of VAT,” he lists.
The communist notes that “in addition to the already difficult situation that Portuguese families find themselves in due to the rising cost of living, either due to the increase in the cost of basic commodities such as food or due to the cost of housing, there has been sharp rise in fuel prices in recent days, followed by the announcement of more increases in the coming weeks.”
For PKP, the rise in food prices, which “allowed enormous profit accumulations” for distribution companies, requires “controlling, setting and lowering prices”, and in terms of housing costs and “systematic increase in interest”, it should be “a bank to support this growth with your profits.
“A measure that is all the more justified as it contrasts with the hardships of tens of thousands of families facing the difficulty of bearing these costs to a bank that sees its profits skyrocketing, as evidenced by the approximately 11 million euros a day it received in the first half of the year. “, he defends.
