Player Pedro Gonçalves, better known as Pote, has extended his contract with Sporting until 2027, Alvalade have announced.
The striker retains an €80m buyout clause. “It’s a sense of pride, I’m very happy to continue with Leao on my chest,” said the Portuguese.
Pote is in his fourth season at Sporting CP, where he joined after leaving the Famalicao. Before the northern emblem, the player was at Wolverhampton, Valencia, Braga, Chavez and Vidago – where he comes from.
As part of the Lions, the player won two league cups, a Super Bowl and a championship. Having won the Portuguese league, he was a key player for Rubén Amorim. He became the top scorer with 23 goals and became the first Portuguese to achieve this title in over a decade.
For the Portuguese, the support of the fans was essential to prolong the bond with the lions. “It is very important. We are very sorry and we even said in the dressing room that the stadium was sold out in that first game. [contra o Vizela]. For us, after a season that wasn’t very good, it’s very motivating that they gave us that support right away.”
The truth is that rThe Portuguese footballer recently shared a video in which he ironically thanked the fans for their support, as the images showed comments criticizing Pote’s performance against Wisela.
This is the second extension Sporting announced this Wednesday. In the early hours of the morning, Ruben Amorim’s club announced that they had extended the contract of another important athlete in the last championship won by the Lions: Nuno Santos, extended until 2027.
