The Saudi Arabian Federation intends to nominate a national champion to participate in the European Champions League, an Italian newspaper reported this Wednesday. Corriere dello Sport.
The institution wants to take advantage of the new format that the competition will adopt from the 2024-2025 season, with 36 teams and eight games to play before the playoffs.
According to the mentioned newspaper, in the coming months, the Saudi Federation may apply to UEFA with a request in the sense that the national champion acts as a “joker”, depriving a European club of a vacancy from entering the Champions League.
The aim is to increase the visibility of the country, emblems and players following increased investment to improve the competitiveness of the league.
