“I am not quite closed in a bell, in a capsule, out of the world, oblivious to the fact that the most diverse sections of Portuguese society in this, as in other laws, speak of the best solution for a law that reaches the last moment of withdrawing from Parliament ”, added Marcelo Rebelo de Souza.

“I already had the opportunity to say that throughout the whole process – it was seven years with several legislatures – I listened and learned everything that came to me, organizations representing sectors in the field of health, groups of citizens. with different positions, political parties, institutions, like now the Regional Assembly of Madeira,” said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, meaning that he “takes note of all this” and “will be attentive and the process of maturation of the decision is enriched by this.”
The Assembly of the Republic approved on Friday the decriminalization of medically assisted death in a final global vote for the third time with a majority vote from PS, IL, BE and individual MPs from PAN and Livre, as well as six parliamentarians. from PSD.
They voted against the Chega and PKP parliamentary groups and the majority of the Social Democratic bench.
A total of 210 deputies attended the plenary session. According to the data provided by the parliamentary services in the semicircle, 125 deputies voted in favor, 81 against, with 4 abstentions.
The decree is currently being finalized and has yet to be reviewed by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who can adopt it, veto it or apply to the Constitutional Court for a preventive review of the text.
