This Saturday, a 58-year-old Pole was rescued from cardiac arrest on board a sailboat about five nautical miles southwest of Angra de Heroismo in the Azores.
According to a statement from the National Maritime Authority, an alert was received at around 1:45 p.m. via the Ponta Delgada Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center of the existence of a person, the “skipper” of the sailboat, who may have cardiopulmonary failure. .
“The crew of the Angra do Heroismo rescue station and members of the captaincy of the port of Angra do Heroismo were immediately activated for the site,” the note said.
Upon arrival at the scene, the man was already “unconscious” as he was taken to the Angra do Heroismo wharf, where the emergency response units (IVS) and Angra do Heroismo volunteer firefighters were already present, who provided assistance and was taken to the hospital department.
There were also five other people on the sailboat who, for reasons of safety of the crew and navigation, were assisted by the Captaincy of the Port of Angra do Heroismo, who steered the boat with pilots from Portos dos Azores and towed to the pier from Angra.
The local Marine Police Commander and Angra do Heroismo Harbor Master coordinated the rescue operations, while the Angra do Heroismo Local Marine Police Command took care of the incident.
