The fire that broke out this Thursday afternoon in a recently burned area in the parish of Karangeheira in the municipality of Leiria has already been extinguished, a civil protection source told Lusa.
According to a source at Leiria’s Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command, the fire in the wooded area was dealt with in a ruling at 21:00.
Luis López explained that the first fire occurred in Casal Vermelho, in the parish of Karangejeira, in the municipality of Leiria, early in the morning as a result of a fire that broke out on 16 August.
Firefighters managed to resolve the situation, and soon after, a new fire broke out.
“We are still trying to figure out whether this is a revival or not,” stressed the civil protection adviser in the chamber of Leiria.
Luis Lopez noted that the fight is progressing well, believing that the situation can be resolved “in the next few hours”, not least because more resources are moving to the ground.
“This is a forested area, where there are no houses under threat or nearby,” the mayor assured.
As reported on the page of the National Office for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection, at 23:41 there were 216 operational personnel with the support of 70 vehicles. At least eight aircraft participated in the fight against fire.
