Benfica are demanding one million euros from Rui Pinto, according to Sábado magazine. The civil compensation suit is part of a new process (taken from the original case in which Rui Pinto is awaiting sentencing) in which the “hacker” is charged by the Department of Justice (MOJ) with 377 computer crimes.
At stake are intrusions into Benfica’s computer system between 2016 and 2019, the theft of the contents of the email accounts of dozens of managers and employees, and the subsequent disclosure of information through Porto Canal or Mercado de Benfica’s blog. The Eagles were one of the organizations attacked, in addition to other football clubs, the League itself, journalists and various representatives of justice, including judges, deputy prosecutors, employees of courts and law firms.
In a 38-page claim for compensation, Benfica admits that it is impossible to accurately assess the damage caused, but reiterates that the club’s “public image” has “been irreversibly affected”.
