SDP general secretary Hugo Soares this Monday declined to comment on the possible candidacy for the presidency of former party president Luis Marquis Méndez, emphasizing the role of the Summer University, which takes place in Castelo de Vide (Portalegre). .

The Secretary General of the SDP, speaking with journalists a few minutes before the start of the SDP Summer University in Castelo de Vide, Portalegre district, preferred to highlight the role of the 100 young people participating in this party initiative and the role of the SDP in political formation.
“I want to make news about these 100 young people who are here to share with many outstanding people, the best of the best in the country, their problems, their reflections, but above all, also to learn from them. Portuguese youth, and this is a great joy that I, as the General Secretary of the PSD, feel about this,” he added.
Former PSD President Luis Marques Mendez acknowledged on Sunday his candidacy for the presidency “if it is good for the country” and “minimum conditions for promotion”, rejecting any decision for now or an agreement with the leader of the Social Democrats.
In his TV commentary on SIC, Méndez was asked about the political significance of his presence at the Festa do Pontal, PSD’s mid-August lease in the Algarve, and whether it was related to Luis Montenegro’s possible agreement to support his candidacy for the presidency. Belen.
“Never in my life have I spoken to Luis Montenegro about presidential elections, there is nothing to talk about, there is no agreement,” Marques Mendez assured, stating that at the moment “there is no solution, not even a desire.”
The PSD Summer University, commemorating the 20th anniversary of this political learning initiative, kicked off this Monday, with speakers including former Prime Minister Durán Barroso and former CDS-PP leader Paulo Portas.
The work ends on Sunday with a speech by party leader Luis Montenegro, marking the political “arena” of the SDP. This Summer University has been held since 2003 with the joint support of the PSD, JSD, Instituto Francisco Sa Carneiro and the Social Democratic Delegation of the European People’s Party.
This 19th edition is attended by 100 young people selected from 350 candidates. According to the director of the university, the participants were chosen with an “age balance between 18 and 30 years old, gender between males and females, and geographic location to cover the entire country.”
