Physicians working in the Azores, the Alentejo and the Algarve are starting this Wednesday a two-day strike called by the Independent Union of Physicians (SIM) to demand that the government respond effectively to the union’s booklet.
The regional strike announced by SIM, which began at 00:00 on Wednesday and will end at 24:00, implies a “complete halt and absence from work” of doctors working in the medical institutions of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, in the area of the Alentejo Regional Health Authority and in the territory Algarve Regional Health Authority.
The Independent Physicians’ Union, in a strike statement released 10 days ago, says “medical workers’ struggle is to force the government to respond effectively to the union’s claims.”
