The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) will hear on September 27 a complaint filed by six young Portuguese against 33 countries, including Portugal, for lack of response to climate change and polluting emissions, the court announced Thursday.
According to the ECtHR, the claim of Duarte Agostinho and Others v. Portugal and Others relates to the polluting emissions of greenhouse gases by 33 Member States, which, according to the applicants, contribute to the phenomenon of global warming, which leads, among other things, to heat waves that affect their living conditions and health.
Therefore, they demand immediate and radical action from target states to restore public health and overcome the climate crisis.
