Rain returns on Friday afternoon to mainland Portugal, on a day when maximum temperatures are expected to drop by about five degrees, below normal for this time of year, according to IPMA.

Speaking to the Lusa agency, meteorologist Patricia Marques from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) said that from today there will be a change in the weather with lower maximum temperatures and a rain forecast.

“Today, the parameter that will be felt most significantly will be a decrease in the maximum temperature, which in some places will be about five degrees. These are below normal values for this time of year and tomorrow. [sábado] further decline [temperatura] maximum,” he said.

According to Patricia Marques, the source of the weather change is a cold frontal surface approaching the territory of mainland Portugal.

“Rain is expected this afternoon on the coast of Minho and Douro, and then it will start to cross the northern and central regions. Precipitation that can last several days on the continent,” he added.

At least until Tuesday, according to the IPMA meteorologist, showers are predicted, which can sometimes be hail and be accompanied by a thunderstorm.

“Tonight, the wind has already slowed down and will decrease in the coming days. The wind will have gusts of up to 30 kilometers per hour. It will be moderate on almost the entire territory,” he said.

As for maximum temperatures, according to Patricia Marquez, they will remain below 30 degrees Celsius in most of the continent.

“In Alentejo we will have a maximum of 26/27 degrees. In coastal regions around 22/24 degrees. In Porto they drop to 24 and in Lisbon to 25. The lows also have a slight drop and are around 15/16 degrees.” ” He said.
