“Dear people, we cannot help people without knowing what they have lost, so we will already be in direct contact with people so that this can be made available as quickly as possible,” the mayor noted, adding that the proposal to establish a fund should go to discussion and voting at a meeting of the chamber with the definition of support mechanisms, which he is trying to do “as quickly as possible.”

Intense and relentless rain on Tuesday caused more than 3,000 accidents, including floods, tree falls and cut roads, affecting mainly the areas of Lisbon, Setubal, Portalegre and Santarem.

A total of 83 people were displaced, according to the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Administration (ANEPC), and bad weather also resulted in the closure and conditioning of roads and railroad tracks, which have been restored.
