UGT President Lucinda Damaso said this Wednesday that an increase in the national minimum wage from the current €705 to €760 in 2023 would be approved at Thursday’s Council of Ministers meeting.
“Tomorrow [quinta-feira] the increase in the minimum wage will be approved by the Council of Ministers, which means that workers in January will see an increase in their minimum wage,” Lucinda Damaso said at the end of the meeting at the Social Concert, where the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security.
In October, as part of a medium-term agreement to raise revenues, the government put forward a proposal to increase the minimum wage from the current €705 to €760 in January 2023.
According to the agreement signed between the government, the UGT and the employers’ confederations, the goal is to reach 900 euros by the end of the legislature (2026).
The government proposes to increase the minimum wage to 760 euros in 2023, to 810 euros in 2024, to 855 euros in 2025 and to 900 euros in 2026.
