Montenegro says PS is “completely confused”

This Monday, the SDP president accused the PS of “complete confusion” and expressed regret that the government is rejecting the policy presented by the social democrats in the housing sector.

“I think the PS is completely confused, it doesn’t hit anyone. How can you say that [do PSD] Of course, he criticizes the one who conducts political control, but he proposes solutions, presents ideas,” said Luis Montenegro.

The leader of the PSD, speaking to reporters at the Abreu Calado Foundation in Benavila, municipality of Avis (Portalegre), during an action included in the “Sentir Portugal” program promoted by the party, stressed that the party expressed its readiness to “support” the government in solving housing problems.

“As for housing, after the veto of the President of the Republic, I put myself on the side of the government. If this is a curse, then the PS gentlemen don’t know what the words mean, or don’t know what they are saying or saying things that ultimately don’t make sense,” he added.

On Sunday, the PS accused the SDP of “failing to acknowledge the many successes the country has made over the past eight years” and of “not making any concrete proposal, especially in the area of housing.”

In response to a speech by the leader of the Social Democrats, Luis Montenegro, at the closing of the SDP Summer University, in which he pointed out the arrogance of the socialist government in rejecting his party’s proposals, PS deputy general secretary João Torres told reporters that the largest opposition party “lives by clinging to gossip” and lost touch with reality.

In Benavil, Luis Montenegro also stated that in the future the PS will “continue and do well” to comment on the actions of the SDP, which he considers a “great sign” for his party.

“Now the PS will continue to, well, comment on the PSD, I like it. In fact, the fact that the PS is a permanent commentator on the PSD is a great sign for the PSD,” he stressed.

The Social Democrat leader also warned that the PS housing program has “no likelihood” of success and that it will be “limited” to using money from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

“The Portuguese government will only do what the European Union money allows us to do, this is a failure as a country. We need help to be with the most developed countries in Europe, but with a country that is always with an outstretched hand, only Life with an outstretched hand is a country without a future,” he said.

“Dr António Costa and PS coexist well, doing with Portugal what they want Portugal to do with the European Union, which is to always have an outstretched hand, always be dependent, I don’t want a subsidized Portugal,” he added.

According to the SDP leader, the government needs to “start over” and show “humility” to introduce a new policy in the housing sector.

“I can only support the President of the Republic, firstly, in his political veto, and secondly, I would say that this is the last opportunity given by Dr. António Costa to save the country. This is not to save yourself or the PS. because, unfortunately, Dr. António Costa and the PS have been in power for eight years now, eight years is the time of two legislatures, they have had more time to show what they are capable of,” he said.

Portalegre is the 13th arrondissement, chosen by the President of the SDP in accordance with the commitment he made in the 40th Congress to spend one week a month in the various arrondissements of Portugal.

Luis Montenegro has been touring the 15 municipalities that make up the Alto Alentejo region since Sunday and ends this tour on Wednesday in Portalegre.
