I Liga VAR messages will be broadcast on a monthly TV program

Disclosure of information about negotiations between referees and video referees (VAR) of Portuguese First Football League matches will be carried out through a monthly TV program, stakeholders said this Monday.

In a joint statement by the Board of Arbitration (CA) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and SportTV, these organizations have decided that “audio conversations between field judges and VARs in all applications judged on a screen available on the field” will be released “on a monthly basis in the program on this station “.

“CA will provide access to audio recordings of rates that match the typing determined at the start of the season, in addition to an element that will be in the studio for the technical design of the decisions,” the statement said.

On July 24, the FPF Council defended the dissemination of information for “pedagogical purposes, in accordance with what it has always considered to be adequate practice”, declaring that: judges and VAR in all bets evaluated on the screen available on the field.

“The AC is of the opinion that the dissemination of audio recordings contributes to a full understanding of the function of arbitration,” Gómez said in defense of the body, headed by José Fontela Gomez.

According to the CA FPF and SportTV, the first program with VAR messages will air on Thursday at 19:30.

This broadcast will include the audio recording of the Supercopa Candido Oliveira, which Benfica won 2-0, in a game in which Porto coach Sergio Conceisan and Dragones captain Pepe were sent off, as well as the matches of the first three rounds of the I League, all played in August.

On July 24, CA also assured that it would “assess the impact of this decision as the season progresses and keep it if it understands that the benefits for football and for understanding the work of arbitration agents are clear.”
