The Minister of Health said this Monday that he has “no doubt” that the sector’s budget will increase in 2024, stressing that in addition to more money, the available resources need to be “managed more effectively”.
“I am not in a position to anticipate the budget debate, I must say that since 2015 the health budget has increased strongly every year (…) and I have no doubt that next year there will be an increase again”, said Manuel Pizarro in Porto on the sidelines of the ceremonial meeting dedicated to National Psychologist Day.
According to the minister, in terms of funds in the state budget for 2024, the government has two concerns: “We need more resources, there is no doubt about it, financial resources, but we also need to manage the resources that we have more efficiently. our disposal, because, ultimately, we are talking about the tax money of the Portuguese, and we have to be careful how we dispose of it,” he listed.
Manuel Pizarro also added, after being questioned again about the matter, that the statute of the Executive Directorate of the National Health Service would be approved “in the next few days” and stated that the absence of this regulation would weaken the body.
“The Executive Board is fully operational and if it has already been able to do what it has done so far, imagine how much they can do once their charter is approved,” he said.
