On Saturday, GNR learned of 428 kilograms of fresh fish from two street vendors aged 69 and 74 in Povoa do Varzim due to lack of a license and sale in a prohibited location, the Guard said on Monday.
The seizures of horse mackerel, sea bream, sea bass, blue whiting, squid, octopus, sardine, pipe and hake occurred as part of an inspection outside the Povoa do Varzim fishing auction, the GNR statement said.
“Two economic agents/street vendors have been checked for carrying out traveling fish trading in a prohibited area, as part of the Povoa do Varzim municipal ordinance, as well as the lack of an appropriate license to carry,” continues the press release.
The identities of two women have been identified and protocols have been drawn up on two administrative offenses, for violation of which a fine of up to 2,000 euros can be imposed, the Guard reports.
After passing a “sanitary check,” the seized fish was “delivered to various social solidarity institutions in the region,” the press release continues.
GNR reminds that the sale of fresh fish in places that are not suitable and licensed for this purpose, where the necessary hygiene and sanitary conditions, namely the storage temperature, are not guaranteed, may endanger public health.
