The Council of Ministers will approve this Thursday the extension of the zero VAT measure on certain foodstuffs deemed essential until the end of the year, PS Secretary General and Prime Minister António Costa announced this Wednesday.
“And that is why, since this measure has worked, since the measure is expected to end in October next year, tomorrow the Council of Ministers will approve the extension of the zero reduction of VAT until December 31, so that we can continue to control the price of essential goods for Portuguese families,” said António Costa from the Socialist Academy in Évora. This initiative marks the socialist rent.
As for raising interest rates on home loans, António Costa called for measures after next week’s European Central Bank meeting to “clear up what’s going to happen” but vowed the government would introduce new measures to support families in September.
The cut from 6% to 0% for a set of 46 essential foods took effect in April.
