The parliamentary leader of the PS, Eurico Brillante Díaz, this Friday accused PSD President Luis Montenegro of defending tax cuts by offering “at the tax auction the amounts that come to his mind.”
“Look at Dr. Luis Montenegro: today he is shouting at a tax auction of sorts: “Cut your taxes now!” of the majority of the PDP/PSD and the SDS were approved in parliament,” said Eurico Brillante Díaz.
The leader of the PS party spoke at a meeting of the Socialist Academy, which was held in Évora until Sunday, on the topic “Left-wing economic policies in the euro: the example of Portugal.”
According to the leader of the Socialist Party, “If there was a party that cut labor taxes (which was never the right’s option, because the right’s option was to cut the IRC, not the IRS), then it was the government’s PS.”
“In essence, Dr. Luis Montenegro and the PPD/PSD were lame: today there is not a single Portuguese who would socially accept the reduction of taxes on companies – as then Dr. Passos Coelho and Paulo Portas wanted to present the TSU to companies – and that taxes are not reduced by work,” – he said.
According to Brillante Diaz, “the time has come to say: welcome.”
“But like any recent convert, [Montenegro] radicalized and is now offering what he can afford at a tax auction,” he said.
The Socialist Party leader also accused the right of defending tax cuts when they are in opposition but then increasing them when they are in government.
