The Minister of Infrastructure said this Wednesday that the legal decision to end next year’s 10 percent toll increase, as stipulated by the concession agreements, would be known in the coming weeks.
“Without wanting to stretch too much, the loss in this dimension will not increase. [cerca de 10%]but in the coming weeks, a legal, legal decision will be known that will allow the state to stop the increase in tolls, which obviously concerns us too,” said the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Pedro Nuno Santos, who is being heard in the Assembly of the Republic, in response to the MP Bruno Diashu.
The official recalled that Prime Minister António Costa had already guaranteed that tolls would not increase by 10% next year, a value that comes from a formula contained in concession contracts with the state and is based on inflation that reached unexpected values this year. .
“We are trying to find a solution that will not only protect the people who move around the city, but also protect the Portuguese state,” said Pedro Nuno Santos.
The Minister of Infrastructure also assured that “before the day the new tariffs come into force,” January 1, “the issue will be resolved.”
When asked about the risks of litigation, Pedro Nuno Santos noted that these issues “have funds provided in the state budget.”
The highway concessionaires are proposing to the government to update toll prices for next year based on the above formula.
The concessionaires were willing to discuss the cost with the government, given the inflationary crisis the country is going through.
