In Mozambique, a man killed his mother-in-law and stepson with a hammer

A man was arrested for killing his mother-in-law and stepson with a hammer, as well as severe blows he also inflicted on his wife and 13-year-old nephew, in Dondo, Sofala province, central Mozambique, police said this Monday.

“We are faced with an aggravated murder situation in which a 46-year-old man allegedly struck four members of his family with a blunt object, in this particular case a hammer. Two of them died at the scene. two were rescued at the local district hospital,” said Dercio Chakate, spokesman for the Provincial Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM).

He added that the victims died at the scene of the attacks from repeated blows. The same attacker hit his wife and nephew on the head with a hammer, both of whom were in serious condition.

“The crime could have been motivated by a lack of understanding between the accused and his wife. PRM and the National Criminal Investigation Service continue to carry out work,” he said.

Sofala police have called for dialogue with local families to avoid the recurrence of violent crimes: “There are several ways to deal with gender-based cases and not focus on violence. We have an office to help women and children who are victims of violence. violence, among other places to turn.”

Dersio Chakate added that after the neutralization and arrest of the perpetrator of the terrorist attacks, a report was drawn up, which will be sent to the prosecutor’s office to file charges.
