The National Republican Guard (NRG) recorded “more than 260 violations” during an intensive operation to inspect and control goods throughout the country on Friday, the security forces reported this Monday.
The operation, dubbed “TRIBUTE III”, focused on the country’s main roads “to prevent, detect and combat tax violations and fraud”, the GNR said, adding that 923 vehicles were inspected and 266 violations were detected. .
During the verification activities, the main attention was paid to the control of transport and invoice documents for goods subject to excise taxes (NEC), namely the tax on petroleum products and energy resources (ISP), the tax on tobacco (IT), the tax on alcohol and alcoholic beverages (IABA ). ) and value added tax (VAT), security officials said.
Another priority of this intensive goods inspection and control operation was to check the normal condition of foreign-registered vehicles in circulation in the country, GNR noted.
Among the 266 violations identified during this operation, which took place on Friday, September 8, throughout the country, including the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores, the most striking highlight is the registration of “238 cases under goods in circulation, namely due to lack of transport documents and/or passes/inaccurate transport documents,” the guard said.
PPR soldiers also prepared two protocols on administrative offenses regarding transport tax, nine protocols on administrative offenses due to the lack of mandatory periodic inspection and 17 protocols on administrative offenses in the field of road legislation.
“Two vehicles were also impounded for irregular driving,” the force added.
Operation GNR was developed with the help of the Financial Action Unit and the territorial commands of the Azores and Madeira and was reinforced by the territorial commands of Aveiro, Braganca, Évora and Faro, as well as with the support of the Public Security Police (PSP) of Lisbon. .
The Guard said in a statement that it would continue and intensify these types of operations as part of the fight against the parallel economy, as well as the practice of tax fraud and tax evasion.
