On Tuesday, a Coimbra court will begin hearing the case of a 37-year-old man accused of robbing and raping an 81-year-old woman in February in the town of Condeixa a Nova.
The defendant, detained as a preventive measure, is accused of committing aggravated rape and robbery.
According to the indictment, which the Lusa agency had access to, a 37-year-old man, a mason by profession, went to the residence of the victim, whom he had known since childhood, early in the morning of February 21, managing to enter the house through a side window.
According to prosecutors, after entering the home, the defendant entered the sleeping victim’s room and allegedly raped her.
Later, armed with a fork, he threatened the victim that he would kill her if he did not give him all the money he had.
It is reported that the victim gave away 30 euros, which he kept in a small safe, a small bag of coins and some items and valuables.
Even before leaving the victim’s house, the accused took the victim’s mobile phone with him.
Prosecutors stress that the 81-year-old woman suffers from “severe depressive and respiratory illnesses, high blood pressure, diabetes, vision and hearing problems” and has “very poor mobility”, which represents a “reduced level of independence, circumstances of the defendant’s knowledge.”
The trial will begin on Tuesday at 15:00 in the Coimbra court.
