Moscow said that no agreement was signed during the visit of the North Korean leader.

On Friday, the Russian President said that no agreement was signed between Russia and North Korea during North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s visit to the country.

“No agreement was signed, and this was not foreseen,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in Moscow, as quoted by the French agency AFP.

The United States has said it suspects Russia wants to buy weapons from Pyongyang for use in its war against Ukraine, while North Korea wants to acquire technology for its nuclear and missile programs.

Washington has warned Pyongyang that it will suffer consequences if it contributes to Russia’s military efforts in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Kim Jong Un on Wednesday at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia’s Far East.

Putin, who received Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in the Russian city of Sochi this Friday, said that Russia and North Korea do not pose any threat to anyone.

“We are not creating threats to anyone. The biggest threats that are now being created in the world come from the current ruling elites,” he told reporters, as quoted by the Russian Interfax agency.

Putin acknowledged that “there are certain features associated with the Korean Peninsula,” alluding to the international sanctions he supported at the UN Security Council against North Korea’s nuclear program.

“We are discussing this, discussing it openly, we have never violated anything and in this case we will not violate anything. But, of course, we will look for opportunities to develop relations between Russia and North Korea,” he said.

“Korea is our neighbor, we must one way or another build good neighborly relations with our neighbors,” the Russian leader added.

Kim Jong-un, making a rare visit to a foreign country, after negotiations with Putin, expressed confidence in the victory of “Great Russia” in Ukraine.

“I am convinced that the heroic Russian army and people, who brilliantly inherited the traditions of victory, will demonstrate dignity and honor on two fronts: in a special military operation and in building a strong state,” Kim said.

Russia officially calls the invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, a “special military operation.”

Kim left for Vladivostok this Friday, where he is expected to take part in a demonstration of the Pacific Fleet’s military capabilities on Saturday after visiting combat aircraft factories in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, in eastern Russia.
