Enough argues that the “middle class” should also receive a support of 240 euros. Support begins to be paid from December 23, until the end of the year.

President Chega regarded this Wednesday as a positive emergency support of 240 euros for one million families announced this Wednesday by the Prime Minister, but said that the “middle class” should also be taken into account.

Speaking to reporters in parliament, Andre Ventura said “all the support the government is giving families at the moment is positive support” but criticized the criteria set for distribution.

“So far we know that these 240 euros will be allocated to those who have minimal benefits or benefits from the social tariff for electricity,” he said.

André Ventura has called on the government to “include the middle class in this support”, proposing to reach families with “mortgage payments above 30% and effort levels above 40% compared to household income”.

President Chega also suggests taking into account “the number of family members and the difficulty of supporting them in relation to school, family and hospital expenses, or the level of efforts of families to pay basic expenses.”

Ventura criticized that, with certain criteria, the executive branch “will allow the same to continue to receive support from the government, and others who really need it will not receive it.”

Leader Chegi also indicated that the party would ask the parliament to discuss the issue “to show that the middle class must be inside these pillars”, arguing that “it cannot be outside, namely when there is so much middle class, given the increase mortgage payment, at the moment he is in much the same position as many who receive this minimum payment.

And he pointed out that this part of the population “would become more and more impoverished with interest and inflation.”

When asked how many people could be covered by this expansion, Andre Ventura could not elaborate.

António Costa announced this Wednesday the payment of an emergency allowance of 240 euros to one million families who receive minimum benefits or use the social energy tariff.

The measure, which will be approved by the Council of Ministers on Thursday, was announced in an interview with Visão magazine. The full version of the interview will also be published on Thursday.

“Inflation is very uneven in its effects,” the chief executive said, noting that “prices have risen for everyone,” but not everyone has “the same ability to adjust to rising prices.”

According to the Prime Minister, this assistance will begin to be paid from December 23 until the end of the year.

This new emergency assistance will be provided to citizens covered by a special electricity tariff or minimum benefits, while the minimum social benefits are considered to be the solidarity supplement for the elderly, social income, social disability pension of the special disability protection regime, social inclusion allowance, social old-age pensions and social assistance for unemployment.
