Montenegro warns that “no one will win the elections the day before”

PSD President Luis Montenegro warned on Tuesday that “no one wins elections on the eve” of the vote and confirmed his trip to Madeira on Friday for the final day of the Social Democratic campaign for regional legislatures on Sunday. .

“We are in the final stage of an electoral campaign in which we are fighting, vote by vote, for the trust of the people of Madeira and Portosanto,” said the leader of the PSD in Abrantes during a visit to a high school as part of the “Sentir Portugal” dedicated this week to the district of Santarem, after he was asked about a poll according to which the absolute majority belongs to the PSD and CDS-PP, which are running in a coalition.

The goal, according to Montenegro, is to “gather as much support as possible” and “mobilize the electorate,” noting that “no one wins elections on the eve of elections.”

“The election can only be won on this day and we will carry our campaign to the end and I myself will have the opportunity to take a short break during the Sentir Portugal week in Santarem, have lunch on Friday and be on the streets in the afternoon in Funchal at the end our election campaign and then, on Sunday and Monday, I will also be in Funchal with the political leadership of the party to monitor the vote count, the election results and conduct our usual weekly Standing Committee meeting,” he concluded.

This trip of Luis Montenegro to Madeira takes place in the week when the next Sentir Portugal program takes place in Santarem, within the framework of which the PSD President visited all areas of the country.

On Friday, after the agenda in Madeira, Luis Montenegro will attend the end of the week “Sentir Portugal em Santarem”, a dinner with activists in Rio Mayor.

Madeira’s legislative assembly takes place on Sunday, with 13 candidates vying for 47 seats in the regional parliament in one constituency.

PTP, JPP, BE, PS, Chega, RIR, MPT, ADN, PSD/CDS-PP (Somos Madeira coalition), PAN, Livre, CDU (PCP/PEV) and IL are the political forces vying for the vote.

In the previous regional elections in 2019, the Social Democrats elected 21 deputies, losing for the first time the absolute majority they had held since 1976, and formed a coalition government with the SDS-NP (three deputies). The PS received 19 mandates, the AKP – three and the CDU – one.
