Chega President André Ventura considered this Thursday that the measures announced by the government regarding housing loans represent a “palliative” and asked for solutions that could help families with increased rents.
“This is just a palliative that does not take into account hundreds of thousands or millions of tenants and does not solve the problem of housing lending,” said the Chegi leader, believing that these proposals have an “electoral bias” and “will not solve anything.” “.
Speaking to reporters at the Assembly of the Republic after the Council of Ministers approved housing lending measures to help families mitigate the impact of rising interest rates, Andre Ventura called the measures “overdue.”
President Chegi believed they should have been implemented “when the crisis hit families” and accused the government of “insufficient preparation” and of failing to provide a “fundamental solution”.
“Together with [as medidas] If they are adopted late, they will be just a patch and will not change the bulk of the increase that has already occurred beyond the norm,” he criticized.
Ventura also lamented that “the government is not passing on any charges to the banks” and said the bank’s “windfall profits” should “support some of this support” for families.
The Council of Ministers today approved housing lending measures to help families cushion the impact of rising interest rates, including a measure that ensures interest rates do not exceed 70% of the index (Euribor) and another that extends interest subsidy support on home loans from 720 to 800 euros.
The government is also maintaining the suspension of fees for early repayment of housing loans until the end of 2024.
