San Francisco Xavier Hospital resumes seeing emergency obstetric patients

The Hospital San Francisco Xavier in Lisbon resumed its emergency obstetric care services this Saturday afternoon, Fernando Sirurgian, director of the service, told Rádio Renascença.

According to the director of the service, hospitalization of patients resumed on Saturday afternoon as at least two beds became available.

San Francisco Xavier Hospital’s emergency obstetrics department was open this morning, but ambulances were not being accepted due to a lack of inpatient beds.

“Hospital beds intended for hospitalization, which are 12 beds, are occupied by pregnant women admitted to the hospital who are scheduled for hospitalization,” explained the director of the service, previously justifying the suspension of hospitalizations.

The emergency obstetric care units at the Beatriz Angelo Hospital in Loures and García de Orta in Almada are closed, but as scheduled, due to the “Born Safe” plan. The maternity ward of the Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon is closed due to renovation work.
