Students and teachers with locked computers and no Internet access

Computers provided to students and teachers are being phased out, and students and teachers no longer have access to the Internet, the National Association of Information Technology Teachers said Monday.

Lusa spoke to some teachers who confirmed that certain problems started appearing on some computers last Friday, which were blocked, and new cases appeared on Monday.

“On Friday we received three computers that were locked, and in a conversation with a colleague I realized that we were not the only case,” a teacher at a school in the north of the country, who asked not to be named, told Lusa.

When asked by Lusa, representatives of the National Association of Information Technology Teachers (ANPRI) explained that the problem was related to non-payment of a security license.

According to the ANPRI president, students who have changed cycles will be most affected, and explains that the problem is more common on computers that were “turned off in August.”

When you try to connect the equipment, instead of the usual unlock code, a message appears warning you that the equipment is locked and the equipment security license has expired.

Cases arise gradually, after 30 days from the last authentication, according to the President of ANPRI, who, however, emphasizes that the CUCo hardware security “software” affects all “sets” of the digital school of students and teachers, since as well as the computers received to schools for management and maintenance.”

In addition to this problem, school principals say students and teachers are running out of access to the Internet. ANPRI also reports that there are students and teachers who no longer have access to the Internet: “Digital school kits contain mobile data cards that allow students and teachers to access the Internet, which were distributed by three operators.

Vodafone data cards are currently being deactivated,” the ANPRI President said. According to Fernanda Ledesma, “this problem so far only affects students and teachers who have “Kits” with data cards from this operator.”

Lusa asked the Ministry of Education questions about these two situations, and the watchdog explained that “it has already taken the necessary steps to quickly resolve the situations related to licenses and connections, for which an international government tender is currently being held.”
