Environment Minister Duarte Cordeiro said Tuesday the government cannot be insensitive to the impact of fuel prices on today’s families, even as it tries to punish the use of fossil fuels.
“We cannot become insensitive to the scale of the impact of this [os preços dos combustíveis] is in families, I don’t think even the environment minister can be insensitive to this,” Duarte Cordeiro said during a CNN conference on the energy transition in Lisbon, after being asked about the tax rebates on petroleum products (ISP), announced on Monday, the Ministry of Finance.
The government has decided to claw back additional VAT revenue through the Income Product Tax (ISP) rebate, which will result in an additional reduction of two cents per liter on diesel and one cent on petrol.
