Portugal shines at the World Figure Skating Championships in Colombia

The national figure skating team is competing at the World Free Skating Championships, which started on September 19 and runs until September 30 in Ibague, Colombia. The Portuguese team has already won three gold medals since the start of the competition.

The main event of Portugal’s performance was the athlete Pedro Valgode, who became the world champion in figure skating in the solo dance competition in the adult category.

The Portuguese athlete finished the style dance competition in third place, but recovered to take first place in the free dance competition, “enabling him to win the world title with a total score of 156.88 points,” the Portuguese Skating Federation said. (FPP) in the statement.

According to the same note, Pedro Valgode stated that the achievement “marks the culmination of a 20-year athletic career.”

Mariana Pinheiro and Diogo Costa also became world champions in solo dancing, but at the junior level. The athlete is the first Portuguese woman to win gold at the World Figure Skating Championships in singles competition. According to the FPP, Mariana Pinheiro became the champion with a score of 138.33 points in the style dance and freedancing competitions.

Diogo Costa, who had already won a silver medal at the European Championships, won the gold medal at the World Championships with a score of 127.25 points.

The Portuguese team also won silver and bronze medals in junior pair dances.

Ema Pitoko and Diogo Carvalho took second place in the world of dance couples with a score of 126.40 in the style dance and freedancing competitions.

Mariana Pinheiro and Diogo Ferreira won the bronze medal among dance couples with a score of 121.76 points in the style dance and freedancing competitions.
