Albuquerque says the agreement to govern Madeira with PAN was entered into “in good faith.”

The president of the PSD/Madeira and regional government said on Tuesday that the four-year agreement on parliamentary influence with the PAN is “serious” and was concluded “in good faith”, but did not rule out negotiations with the Liberal Initiative as well.

“The agreement was signed within the framework of the fundamental principles of trust and honesty between the two political forces. This is a very serious agreement,” Miguel Albuquerque told reporters at the regional government presidium in Quinta Vigia in Funchal.

Miguel Albuquerque added that this is a “parliamentary agreement for a period of four years” and that “it includes part of the PAN program,” noting that some principles of the agreement are also included in the PSD/CDS project.

“In this sense, we are very satisfied. The negotiations were started and completed in a spirit of goodwill, with the aim of protecting the interests of the autonomous region and its population,” he emphasized.

The PSD/CDU-PP coalition won regional legislative elections in Madeira on Sunday with 43.13% of the vote, but fell short of an absolute one-member majority, which requires 24 of the archipelago’s 47 parliamentary seats, according to official preliminary results.

PAN elected Monica Freitas as head of the list.
