Montenegro says: “No, it is not so” and rules out the absence of an “agreement on political governance”

The PSD president said this Wednesday that “no, that is not the case” and excluded the Chega party from any “political governance agreement” it might have to enter into in the future, saying that “there is no point in further fueling this issue ” .

At a press conference at the party’s national headquarters, following meetings with trade unions and associations in the field of education, Luis Montenegro was asked about the statement he made on election night in Madeira, in which he said that there would be no government decision in any region, nor on the continent with this party.

“The same can be said about the fact that we are not going to govern either Madeira or the country with the support of Chega, because we do not need it,” Luis Montenegro emphasized on Sunday.

This Wednesday, when asked to clarify what would happen if the party led by André Ventura was needed after the next legislative elections, he replied that “it’s very simple: no, no.”

“I will never conclude an agreement on political governance with Chega,” he said, given that this became clear after the PSD congress in the summer of 2022.

“I know that there is a lot of theorizing about the formula that I have chosen to express my position – it has always been the same, perhaps in different ways. The moment has come when it is not worth dwelling on this topic any further: no. this is not true,” he insisted.

Asked how he would act if he one day needed Cega to become prime minister, Montenegro again referred to his statements at the PSD congress.

“If one day I am faced with a situation in which I have to give up my principles, values ​​and my word, I will not flinch, I will always stand by my principles and my values. No, no, period,” repeated.

Faced with the need to “choose” between IL and PAN, Montenegro repeated that “there is a political force,” which the SDP excludes, referring to Chegu.

“When I have to choose, it means that I have already won the legislative elections and I will have to form a parliamentary majority,” he added.

Asked whether Cega’s exceptional position extends to the Azores, where the PSD has entered into a parliamentary protection agreement with André Ventura’s party, Montenegro only said it would monitor elections scheduled for next year in that autonomous region, “with the desire to see the outcome was equal or better” than in Madeira, where the party was one deputy short of an absolute majority.
