PS President Carlos Cesar warned this Saturday that 2023 will be a “difficult year”, saying it will be necessary to “carefully” monitor the situation of the most vulnerable people and warning that the socialists cannot “lose”. ambition”.
In a video message he sent to the XXIII Congress of Socialist Youth, which will last until Sunday in Braga, Carlos Cesar warned that 2023 will be the year when the PS government will “definitely face new challenges.”
“After the important successes that we have achieved this year, namely the good results obtained in the indexes of employment and economic growth above all forecasts (…), we are in for a difficult year,” Carlos Cesar warned.
To meet these challenges, the President of the PS stated that it would be necessary not only to carry out the reforms contained in the government’s program, “but also to follow the development of the business economy and the situation of people with the greatest attention.” and families in the more disadvantaged” to “if applicable, with the possibility and with the necessary intensity” to implement “additional support measures”.
At a time when the country and government are committed to “repairing the obstacles and inequalities exacerbated by the pandemic and the aftermath of the war in Eastern Europe”, according to Carlos Cesar, PS cannot “lose sight of the struggle for a better society” that it seeks to build.
“The measures that our government has taken to target economic activity and families, which have been stepped up in the areas of social support – and very well – in the week just ended, are proof of a commitment that only finds limits at the frontiers of opportunity, budgetary commitment and resources. countries,” he said.
Leaving aside the criticism of other parties, Carlos Cesar stressed that “from most of the party opposition, from left to right, including the largest opposition party, always involved in its internal struggle”, PS already knows what it can expect.
“Few exploit their constant penchant for litigation and destructiveness, and among the most radical, their disputes over the trophies of radicalism, negative discrimination and slander. I would like to be more concerned about helping the country, and not about fighting the PS,” he said.
Despite this, Carlos César emphasized that the PS relies on the “critical and proactive intervention of the social partners and all political forces and citizens of good will”, as well as what he called “the largest political youth organization” in Portugal. with reference to js.
In this speech, the President of the PS emphasized that “the SP is not and is not expected to be an inert, disciplined and peace-loving body, annex or secretary of the PS, or even less an illusory solace for the Portuguese youth.”
“There is hope, there is hope, that this will be a driving force for change, refinement and, when necessary, a break with indifference in the present and in the face of the future,” he stressed.
Carlos César expressed his belief that together PS and JS could become “an active part of the best Portugal they have always aspired to”, stating that JS should “voice the challenges of the youth of all generations”. .
“These were, are and always will be difficult fights in which JS fights with personal, physical and civic courage, but it will be an ongoing fight because they will accompany us as long as there is ambition. And JS, like PS, is forbidden to lose ambition,” he stressed.
