New York declares state of emergency due to heavy rain and flooding

Heavy rains after a week of constant precipitation caused flooding in New York, USA, this Friday. New York City Mayor Eric Adams declared a state of emergency in the city.

Heavy rains forced New York Gov. Kathy Hochul to declare a state of emergency in New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley, with some National Guard troops deployed to help respond to calls for help.

The flooding caused major disruptions to the New York City subway and Metro-North commuter rail, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Agency, which operates both. Some metro lines were completely suspended and many stations were closed.
