According to estimates by the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof), at the beginning of the year, about 80 thousand students were left without teachers in at least one subject. Fenprof warned that the situation would worsen by the end of the year due to cases of teachers with assigned classes but about to retire.

Fenprof noted that between September and December 2023, more than a thousand teachers will retire, leaving thousands of students without classes, since there are no candidates for many vacancies opened by schools.

This Monday, the MOE begins a round of negotiations to make the teaching career more attractive, arguing that master’s students will begin to take paid internships in the second academic year, which can reach 1,600 euros gross per month, equivalent to a teacher’s salary. at level 1.

The proposals presented to the unions also include a package of measures aimed at self-qualified teachers.
