The President of the Republic said this Thursday that his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky will make a bilateral visit to Portugal, but did not specify the date when this will happen.
“I know we tell him to come, but not this time. [Zelensky esteve esta quinta-feira em Granada, Espanha]he had to return to Ukraine, only a few hours passed [em Espanha]it wasn’t even until tomorrow [sexta-feira] in Granada,” Marcelo Rebelo de Souza told reporters upon his arrival at the opening dinner of the 18th informal meeting of the Arraiolos group, which will take place from today to Friday in Porto.
He added: “It was therefore considered preferable to make a bilateral visit to Portugal.”
On Thursday afternoon, the President of the Portuguese Republic announced that the President of Ukraine had accepted Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s invitation to visit Portugal and that the relevant teams were still “working on a date” for this to happen.
“The President of Ukraine accepted the invitation of the President of the Republic to visit Portugal,” says a message published on the official website of the President of the Republic on the Internet.
According to the same note, Zelensky’s trip to Granada to attend the European Political Community summit was decided “at the last minute” so the visit would be “very short”, making a possible visit to Portugal impossible at present.
At the beginning of the week, a number of Portuguese media outlets announced a possible trip by Vladimir Zelensky to Portugal on Friday, which, however, would be ineffective.
