A 22-year-old man died on Saturday after being hit in the throat by the remains of a glass bottle in Bairro Alto in Lisbon. The victim was left on the sidewalk to bleed while the suspects fled. The young man with signs of life was taken to the San Jose hospital, but he died.
The crime occurred at 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of Calçada do Combro and Largo de Callhares streets. The Homicide Unit of the Lisbon Judicial Police (PJ) is investigating and already has several videos of the fight that led to the crime committed using mobile phones. They will be fundamental to the investigation.
In one of these videos, the one in which CM had access, about a dozen people were seen physically clashing on the street. The victim can be seen being hit and then passed out against the wall of the store. It is also understood that there were several witnesses to the crime, but apparently no one helped.
First aid to the young man was provided by a brigade of Lisbon volunteer firefighters who were passing by the scene of the incident (the barracks are located 300 meters from the crime scene). Upon arrival of INEM, the victim was in cardiopulmonary arrest and was bleeding profusely from the neck. INEM then transported him to San Jose, where his death was announced.
PSP created a security perimeter on the territory and, guess what? CMdeployed civilian agents throughout the area looking for criminal suspects and other rioters. At the time of writing, there were no information about any arrests. The joint venture does not exclude the scenario of robbery. It is also possible that this was a confrontation between youth gangs.
A stone near the crime scene hit firefighters
Lisbon volunteer firefighters, whose barracks on Rua das Flores is located about 300 meters from the scene of Saturday’s killing, were the first to treat the victim. And I told CM Commander Deborah Alves was damaged shortly after the battle. “I’m not connecting one to the other, but shortly after the murder, a man was arrested for throwing rocks into the window of one of our cars. After the attack, the car was inoperable,” he said.
