About one and a half tons of cocaine were seized by the tax and customs department at the port of Sines, hidden at the bottom of a container arriving from Panama, it was announced on Tuesday.
In a statement, AT explained that the drug was discovered by its customs services operating in the port of Sines.
The cocaine “was hidden at the bottom of a container from Panama, which was selected for control using risk analysis techniques used at various external borders of the European Union,” the same source said.
To carry out this control, “the AT teams resorted to the use of ‘scanning’ equipment they had in this port, with the help of which they discovered the existence of a huge amount of product hidden in the structure of this container.” , he added.
Teams from the Sines Customs Delegation, owned by AT Setúbal Customs, took samples of the product.
This “made it possible to establish, using rapid tests, that it was cocaine of a high degree of purity,” AT emphasized.
“All these narcotic products were immediately transferred to the Judicial Police (SP) as the competent criminal police authority for legally established purposes,” he said.
